February - Insecure Writers Support Group

February 3 question - Blogging is often more than just sharing stories. It’s often the start of special friendships and relationships. Have you made any friends through the blogosphere?

The awesome co-hosts for the February 3 posting of the IWSG are Louise - Fundy Blue , Jennifer Lane, Mary Aalgaard, Patsy Collins at Womagwriter, and Nancy Gideon!

I suppose according to the above entry, I could say I am friends with anyone who regularly visits or comments on my blog. But whether something special has stemmed from that, I would say, "Not yet."

In the blogosphere, there are some names that I recognize each month. I value their opinions and get excited when I see they have left a comment. But I feel that this blog is still too new to be anything special yet.

If I take a close look at where the IWSG has taken me, I can see something special as a result. I met my writing coach via this group's page on facebook, and I attend regular online meetings with him and a number of his other clients. I do consider them as friends since we help each other, make jokes, and connect regularly.

I have always had difficulty with friendship, even in the sphere of reality, so it is tricky for me to say much more about the subject.

I am, however, absolutely thrilled to be part of the writing community and I look forward to many friendships in the future!

Happy Black History Month to all. May we use this month to reflect on the meaning of love and everything connected. We are all connected in life and I hope you find peace this month.

  6. It's also interesting to see the ebb and flow of writers and how they engage with each other. Some friends seem to have disappeared and then - up they pop! It's great.

  7. Like real life friendships, internet friendships builds over time. Blog hops like IWSG and WEP surely help build and then deepen those connections, at least they did for me.

  8. As I read on another post, there's a difference between making a "connection" and a "friendship". The former obviously precedes the latter. Through IWSG, I've been blessed with making the transition from one to the other with some individuals. I also met a wonderful woman through an on-line writing course who became a wonderful real life friend, that I would never have met in "real" life.

  9. Friendships do take time, and it's wise to be prudent due to the anonymity of the internet. This has been a safe place for me so far. Happy IWSG Day!

  12. Crossing the line from acquaintance to friend is tough. I don't always have the skills for that - but I adore my small circle of buddies!

  13. It's hard to know sometimes when a purely cyber relationship reaches the point of friendship. But those writer connections you are making here are valuable, however you define them!

  14. Hi, Steph! Every time I see the name of your blog, I take a breath and relax. I think the world of the IWSG as an organization, and I enjoy the friendships and relationships I have built. I've been a member for years now, and so many things have opened up to me as a result. Like being featured in last year's IWSG anthology. A great way to reach out is to interact with the other authors in your anthology. Jump in and make an encouraging comment on the IWSG anthology blog to a fellow author. I assume you know about the site, but on the off chance you don't, here's the address. http://iwsganthologies.blogspot.com I'm going to pop over to encourage you and the other authors whenever I can. Wishing you a great February!

  15. I am a reader rather than a writer but am regularly blown away by the supportive nature of the ISWG.
And, I have made friends here in the blogosphere. Good friends, though I will probably never meet them in the flesh.
Thank you so much for joining the Words For Wednesday meme. I loved your take on Alex's prompts.

  16. It's my first visit to your blog and I love the name. You found a writing coach on the IWSG? That inspired me - maybe that's what I need - someone to hold me accountable to my writing. Happy IWSG day.

    1. I am glad you came to visit! I love my writing coach. At first I thought it was weird to hire someone to make me do my own work, but it has really been priceless. Max specifically helps with first books, but I know there are others who do more than that.

  17. Aww, I know that feeling, of recognising a name and being excited that they've commented. It's so fun!

  18. I can definitely relate to the feeling that friendship is a tricky thing. I am by no means a social butterfly. You must be doing something right, as you have quite a few comments. I'm always surprised if I get any, honestly.

  19. It's nice to feel we're part of a community of people who have things in common, and connecting with writers does provide that.

  20. I found this month's question difficult to answer too, as I'm quite a private person and I only have a few close friends in real life.
It's great that you found your writing coach through the IWSG. I'm also grateful for all the help and support I've had from this group over the years.

  21. Seeing the same names come up in comments each month is nice. The writing community here is quite supportive and encouraging, which is great in these times when getting that in person isn't all that easy.
